Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Ural Federal Agrarian Scientific Research Centre, Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences” was founded upon Decree of FASO of Russia № 604 dated September, 18, 2017.
The main aim of the center is development of the basic concepts and technologies in plant science and animal agriculture, to provide people with high quality food products by means of renewable natural resources and life-support technologies, and protection of human and animals’ health.
The above-mentioned tasks are solved by the scientific organization included in the Centre: Ural Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture, Yekaterinburg; Ural Scientific Research Veterinary Institute, Yekaterinburg; South-Ural Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture and Potatoes, Cheliabinsk; Sverdlovsk Breeding Station of Horticulture, Yekaterinburg; Kurgan Scientific-Research Institute of Agriculture, Kurgan.
The work of the Centre aimed at development of scientific-technological activities and obtaining the results necessary for invention of technologies, production, and services, to provide independence and competitiveness of the agroindustrial complex of the Ural area. The centralized organizational supervision and strategic coordination of development of agricultural science provide high level of integration of scientific and industrial potential of the institutions and improve the efficiency of work of the agroindustrial complex of the Ural Federal Area.
The priority tasks of the Centre include:
· development of scientific and technical activities and obtaining the results necessary to invent technologies, production, and services, to provide independence and competitiveness of the agroindustrial complex;
· breeding of cereal and pulse crops, potatoes and perennial grasses, in order to invent the worldwide sorts, high-quality planting material of fruit and berry crops, and pedigreed material in animal agriculture that ensures import independence;
· development of modern import-substituting medications and diagnostic tools for animal use;
· improvement of the professional training system for the personnel of the agroindustrial complex;
· promotion of scientific and technical and innovative policy of the Russian Federation on import substitution of food products and food security.
There are 482 workers in the Centre, including 178 scientific workers, among which there are one full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, one Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, 4 Honored Agronomist of the Russian Federation, 29 Doctors of Science and 74 Candidates of Science.
The main lines of scientific work of FSBSI UrFASRC, UrB of RAS:
· Agriculture
Ural SRIA, Kurgan SRIA – development and improvement of biologized crop rotations; development of new methods of plant protection; geoinformational technologies in agriculture.
· Plant farming and gardening
Ural SRIA, Kurgan SRIA, South-Ural SRIHP, Sverdlovsk BSH – feed production; breeding of cereal and pulse crops; breeding of potatoes; breeding of fruit and berry crops.
· Animal agriculture and veterinary medicine
Ural SRIA, UrSRVI – improvement of genetic structure of agricultural animals according to DNA markers; monitoring and diagnostics of most serious animals’ infections based on molecular genetic methods; invention of new import-substituting medications for veterinary.
As of 2018, 240 sorts of agricultural crops bred in the Urals are included into the National Registry of the Russian Federation. 136 technologies have been developed, among which: 46 – in veterinary, 48 – in agriculture, and 37 – in gardening. Total planting acreage for the sorts of crops bred in the Urals is over 2 million hectares. 175 patents have been acquired, and 5 programs for ECM and 3 computer data bases have been created and registered. The National Registries of the Russian Federation support 112 intellectual property assets.
The academic staff training is provided through the certified postgraduate training program (License №2761 dated by 20.07.2018, Series 90Л01 №0009859), and leading educational institution according to the higher education programs for training academic and teaching staff as postgraduate training (degree in: 06.06.01 Biological science, 36.06.01 Veterinary and Zootechny, 35.06.01 Agriculture).
The training centre (License №2761 dated 20.07.2018, Series 90Л01 №0009859) provides the training of the specialists of the agroindustrial complex according to the programs of further vocational education “Modern technologies in animal agriculture, veterinary and preservation biological potential of animals and of various veterinary specialists
There is the Dissertation Defense Board for applicants for PhD degree, for a degree of Candidate of Veterinary and Biological Sciences. More than 50 dissertations have been defended. The Educational Training Centre provides 35 programs of supplementary vocational training. More than 1500 specialists have completed the training.
There are branches of the profile departments of the Ural State Agricultural University, South Ural State Agricultural University and the Kurgan Academy of Agriculture, formed on the base of all the branches and subdivisions of UrFASRC, UrB of RAS.
There is permanent fruitful cooperation with the leading scientific research institutions of the Russian Federation and foreign countries, such as China, the Czech Republic, Sweden, the USA, Belorussia, Kazakhstan and others.
