The Institute of Metal Physics has developed new high-manganese steels of 10G25C3T, 10X11G16H grades and nitrogen-containing chromium-manganese austenitic steels of х16G17с4На0.25and 60х16G15На0.40 grades that exhibit high wear resistance and low friction coefficient; methods of thermal treatment of the steels have also been developed in the working temperature range of -196 to 500оC.
In cooperation with the Institute of Organic Synthesis, efficient lubricants have been developed for the proposed steels that ensure a stable boundary friction regime and provide a practically wear-free condition under high loads.
FIELD OF APPLICATION: heavy-duty friction assemblies operating at high sliding speeds, in poor lubrication conditions, or in the presence of corrosive and abrasive media.
ADVANTAGES of the new steels: special equipment or expensive and scarce ferroalloys are not required for melting, hot plastic deformation and thermal treatment. Comparable in their wear resistance and the friction coefficient with nonferrous alloys (bronzes, brasses, and stellites), the steels cost less.
