A technology has been developed for controlled synthesis of nanosized solid solutions based on doped zinc oxides with pre-assigned morphology including those in the form of nanotubes. The synthesized solutions were tested as hydroquinone photooxidation catalysts in aqueous medium during irradiation in UV and visible spectral regions.
APPLICATION
• Catalysts for photocatalytic oxidation of toxic organic substances, and for decontamination of water and air by removing pathogenic bacteria;
• Active components of cells for the decomposition of water under exposure to sunlight to produce hydrogen.
ADVANTAGES
• The proposed method of controlled synthesis of photoactive solid solutions is universal;
• It permits synthesis of nanosized zinc oxide with pre-assigned dimensions and morphology;
• The method allows shifting the photocatalytic activity of zinc oxide from UV to visible spectral region.
