A method has been developed for the modifcation of polymeric track membranes (PTM) by ion-plasma spraying of a functional coating on their surface. Such membrane materials combine the morphological properties of PTM and of the applied inorganic nanostructured coating. Nanocomposite track membranes (NCTM) produced in this way are superior to PTM in chemical stability, electric conductivity, fltration, and some other properties.

ADVANTAGES

• The pore size of NCTM may be varied by changing the time of spraying. Membranes with pore diameter of 1 to 6 nm or larger can be produced.

• Surfaces with high electric and thermal conductivity are created as a result of the deposition of a nitride layer.

APPLICATIONS OF NCTM

• The coatings can be used as electrodes for selective fltration and electrochemical deposition.

• NCTM can serve as substrates for electron microscopy.
