The Institute of Technical Chemistry has developed a new composite material based on the thermoplastic polymer binder and micro-size metallic fller.

Density of the material is 10–12 g/cm3. It protects against radioactive radiation, and, in contrast to the traditionally used lead, is environmentally friendly.
Owing to the thermoplastic matrix, it can be processed repeatedly. Unlike the majority of filled thermoplastics, it can be processed at relatively low temperatures (below 120℃).
The properties of wolframan are higher than those of the similarly used Ecomass material (USA).
